The power plant will be built on a site which previously housed a coal-based power generation facility. The site is currently undergoing transformation. The old coal facilities and other structures are being demolished partially. These will be repurposed to install the new power plant. The company has already reserved manufacturing slots for two SGT6-9000HL gas turbines, as per reports.

Commenting on the development, Texas Governor Greg Abbott stated that it is very much critical for Texas to increase the capacity and reliability of its power grid, in line with the state’s growth. The proposed power plant will provide enough electricity for hundreds of thousands of Texas homes, he added.

The new power plant will supply power to as many as 800,000 homes within the ERCOT network. It will boost the reliability, resilience and capability of the state grid so as to ensure delivery of reliable power to every Texas home.
