Shell Egypt Announced Natural Gas Discovery in Mediterranean Sea

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Shell Egypt reported significant step forward in its exploration efforts by announcing discovery of new offshore natural gas reservoir in the North East El-Amriya block in Egypt’s Mediterranean Sea.

The company declared successful completion of drilling of the first well Mina West, located in the North East El-Amriya block. The drilling activities were conducted offshore Nile Delta at a depth of nearly 250 metres below the sea level. Shell is currently carrying out further evaluation to determine the size and potential of the discovery, which will be announced later.

The drilling campaign was executed in partnership with Stena Drilling, by utilizing their Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU).

The new discovery marks an important development for Shell Egypt’s exploration campaign. It further reinforces the company’s commitment towards expanding the country’s energy resources, thereby contributing to its economic growth.

Commenting on the development, Khaled Kacem, Vice President and Country Chair of Shell Egypt stated that the successful delivery of its current exploration campaign is a cornerstone of Shell Egypt’s growth strategy. Shell, along with its partners, is committed to reach the development phase of the block, he added.
