Ukrainian Drones Attacked Russia’s Third Largest Refinery

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): According to reports, Ukrainian drones carried out attacks at Taneco Refinery- the third largest refinery in Russia. The drones hit a unit that refines approximately 155,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The refinery is estimated to have an annual production capacity of around 340,000 barrels per day.

The Russian officials confirmed that its jamming devices locked onto a Ukrainian drone near the refinery. A fire broke out at the refinery, which was extinguished within a short period of time. The production was not disrupted. Also, no casualties or serious damages were reported.

The state RIA news agency noted that the drone hit the primary refining unit, CDU-7, which accounts for almost 50% of the plant’s total annual production capacity. The attack was part of the series of attacks carried out by Ukraine in the highly industrialised region of Tatarstan, located south-east of Moscow, in the early hours Tuesday, in which a few people have been reported injured.

Of late, Ukraine has been targeting oil refineries in Russia- the world’s second largest oil exporting nation. As per estimates, nearly 14% of the country’s refining capacity has been shut down on account of drone attacks. Meantime, Ukraine authorities justified the attacks, saying that it is part of the country’s fight for survival.
