Update on Proposed Natural Gas Project in Stratford Expected Thursday Afternoon

SEATTLE (Oil Monster):  An update is coming on a proposed natural gas project in Stratford.

At the city’s Energy and Environment Committee meeting Thursday afternoon, Director of Infrastructure and Development Services Ed Dujlovic will be giving an update on the bio-digester.

If approved by council, officials say the project would see new equipment added to the Water Pollution Control Plant on West Gore Street that would allow large quantities of organic matter, including food waste, to be processed there.

Officials say that the goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by diverting residential and organic waste from landfill sites.

The waste would be co-digested at the plant, along with sewage solids, with the methane gas produced by the anaerobic digesters at the plant refined into natural gas, and then injected into the natural gas distribution system for use.

A public meeting on the proposal is still planned for the future although the date for the meeting has yet to be announced.

Thursday afternoon’s meeting is being held at the Stratford Rotary Complex beginning at 4:00 p.m.
