MONTREAL (Oil Monster): Global natural gas consumption reached an all-time high of 4,202 billion cubic metres (bcm) in 2025, increasing by 69 bcm, or 1.7%, from the previous year, according to the Global Gas Report 2026. However, demand is expected to drop by 7 bcm in 2026 due to higher prices driven by disruptions in LNG supplies on account of the Strait of Hormuz crisis.
The report from the International Gas Union, Snam and Rystad Energy said global gas supply also reached a record 4,147 bcm in 2025. LNG net imports stood at 580 bcm. The expected decline in 2026 would mark the first annual fall in global gas demand since 2022.
