Italy Received First Delivery of U.S. LNG from Venture Global

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Italian energy giant Edison received the first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from U.S. firm Venture Global.

A news release from the company states that on Wednesday, May 14, the first shipment of 165,000 cubic meters reached Italy. The LNG carrier Elisa Aquila filled the gas at the Calcasieu Pass facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. After traveling across the Atlantic for almost two weeks, it arrived at the Port of Piombino on the Tyrrhenian Sea coast of Italy. According to the news release, the cargo is currently prepared for regasification and feeding into the national network.

In 2017, Edison and US-based Venture Global struck a long-term agreement for Edison to use its two 174,000-cubic-meter capacity LNG carriers to supply 1.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually, or 14 cargoes annually. The contract begins with this delivery.

In the meantime, Edison declared that it would keep suing for delivery delays. It should be mentioned that the company's arbitration against Venture Global for breach of contract at the London Court of International Arbitration is still pending. However, Venture Global attributed the prolonged commissioning on a force majeure incident, two storms, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
