Norway Piped Natural Gas Exports Surged in 2022

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The latest statistics published by Norway’s pipeline system operator, Gassco said that the country’s piped natural gas exports witnessed marginal surge by 3.3% during the previous year. The increased exports on account of gas supply disruptions from Russia resulted in increased volumes.

The country exported 116.9 billion cubic metres (bcm) through its 8,800 kilometre pipeline network in 2022. This is upon comparison with deliveries of 113.2 bcm in 2021 and 107.0 bcm in 2020. The delivery volumes had touched a record of 117.4 bcm in 2017. The 2022 delivery volumes were the second-highest volume after the 2017 record volumes.

The exports to Germany registered highest increase, rising by 11% from the year before. The supplies to France and Belgium too were up by 4.7% and 2.6% respectively. On the contrary, the supplies to Britain registered notable decline by 11.7% year-on-year. The above is based on gas deliveries through pipelines alone and does not include LNG transported from Norway by ship.

Frode Leversund, CEO of Gassco noted that 2022 demonstrated how important Norwegian natural gas is and will be as a reliable energy source to Europe. The country has by far been Europe’s biggest supplier of natural gas throughout the previous year, amidst several challenges. Its exports ensured secure gas deliveries to Europe, Leversund noted.
