OPEC: Iran Remained the Top Natural Gas Exporter in 2024

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Iran remained the world's top exporter of natural gas last year, according to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries' (OPEC) most recent trade figures.

In 2024, the nation exported 8.967 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Despite a sharp 30% drop in export volume from 2023's peak of 12.927 billion cubic meters, the high export numbers show how resilient the nation has been in the face of difficult market conditions.

Iran improved its energy cooperation with its neighbors in the past year. It agreed to provide Iraq with about 50 mcm of gas per day in March 2024. Furthermore, Iran has looked into export prospects to nations like Turkmenistan and Oman.

The world's largest gas exporter, Russia, dropped to third place. When compared to the time before the conflict with Ukraine began, the nation's gas exports have decreased by 34% to 159 billion cubic meters. In 2024, U.S. natural gas exports reached 218 billion cubic meters, a 16% increase from 2021. According to the report, Qatar's exports increased significantly from 2021 to 2024, reaching 162 billion cubic meters.
