Israel Updates Egypt and Jordan on Cut in Natural Gas Supplies

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Israel’s Energy Minister Eli Cohen said that Egypt and Jordan have been notified about the cut in Israeli natural gas supplies to these countries in the wake of ongoing Israel-Iran air attacks. It must be noted that the battle between the two countries has entered into its seventh day.

The country plans to resume natural gas export to these nations upon receiving confirmation from its military authorities that it is safe to conduct such exports. It must be noted that the Chevron-operated Leviathan and Energean’s Karish, which accounts for the bulk of exports to Egypt and Jordan, have been temporarily shut since June 13.

The country operates only the older Tamar field, the supplies from which are mainly intended to meet domestic needs.

Cohen said that the country doesn’t want to use its strategic storage, as they are involved in a war. Under the current circumstances, the country gives primary importance to meet domestic supply requirements.

It must be noted that nearly 15-20% of total Egyptian domestic consumption is met by supplies from Israel. The halt in supplies from Israel has forced Egypt’s fertiliser producing companies to halt their operations.

Israel’s oil refineries in Hafia were hit by Iranian missile. The facility is expected to resume operations only within a month.
