About Company

Our 21,000 employees keep daily life functioning in almost every neighbourhood across the UK.

Amey is one of the largest and most diverse companies working for the public and regulated sectors in the UK, with the ultimate aim of creating better places for people to live, work and travel.

Our ultimate aim is to create sustainable communities. We will create positive social change by working with our customers, partners and suppliers to maximise long-term benefits for the wider community.

This year, we pledged to reinvest profits back into supporting communities and people.

Delivering vital services across almost every area of the UK means we have a huge impact on the communities we serve. We look to maximise positive outcomes by delivering services with the following aims:

Supporting the local economy

We understand the importance Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have on the UK economy and aim to engage with these organisations on all our contracts. We deliver programmes to support and help build capacity for local commerce and business through the use of SMEs, social enterprises and not-for-profit organisations. Our supported local partner model enables SMEs to start up, providing employment and resulting in positive economic impacts on the communities that we work with.

Supporting employment, education and skills

We conduct targeted employment, skills and training programmes aimed at disadvantaged people and out-reach groups, including the unemployed, young people, ex-offenders and ex-military personnel.

Amey has supported youth charity The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) for almost ten years. In 2014, we began a pioneering new partnership with DofE that will help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds across the UK take part in the scheme. The innovative programme identifies underserved communities and expands local DofE provision to help improve the life chances and employability of young people. His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex commended the initiative which extends our ten-year partnership and commitment to the DofE.

Through local community partnerships, Amey works with over 300 ex-offenders, homeless and disadvantaged young people to provide them with skills and support to find employment. Our partnership with the Ministry of Justice see us recruit ex-offenders in highways maintenance to work as part of a scheme designed specifically to reduce reoffending rates.

In Scotland, through a customised training programme and Jobcentre Plus placement opportunities, 27 people have joined Amey from a position of long-term unemployment. As a result, over a four-year period we have saved the government £2 million in benefits and income support.

Protecting and conserving the environment

We contribute to creating low carbon communities that conserve the natural environment and minimises the use of resources. We develop and implement numerous biodiversity action plans on our contracts. Environmentalists from our Consulting teams undertake environmental impact assessments and partner with local organisations, such as the Wildlife Trusts, Conservations Trusts and Groundwork.

Being an active member of the community

We always try to support local needs and help empower people to deliver change in their communities.

The Amey Foundation is a fund that supports employee charity fundraising activities in their local communities. Any employee taking part in an event to raise money for charity can apply for additional fundraising from the foundation.

We seek to empower our employees to participate in charities and community projects and provide each with one paid day per year to support an initiative of their choice. With 21,000 employees, this is the equivalent of over 160,000 hours of community volunteering.
