History

Since its inception in 1914, BASO has been recognized as an innovative leader in developing and manufacturing a wide range of quality gas control products and accessories. Originally called Milwaukee Gas Specialty Company, the facility produced gas range accessories and later added products for water heaters and furnaces. When the company was granted an exclusive license to manufacture and market the Baltimore Automatic Shut-Off (BASO) switch in 1934, Milwaukee Gas Specialty Company and BASO quickly became synonymous. The companys name was officially changed to BASO, Inc. in 1957. In 1961, BASO merged with Penn Controls, and the combined entity was later purchased by Johnson Controls, Inc. in 1968. BASO Gas Products LLC, was formed on August 30 2004, when Johnson Controls sold its BASO Gas Valve and Pilot Burner business in Watertown, Wisconsin, to George Sopko. The vision to "go it alone" and purchase this business was the strong belief that success lies with a dedicated team of people focused on the customer and product quality, while operating in an environment using World Class Manufacturing methods and practices. As of July 21, 2017, BASO has moved into their newly constructed 75,000 square foot manufacturing facility. This will accommodate our continued growth and insure we continue to manufacture our products to the highest quality standards and continue to provide the shortest possible lead times to our customers. While many things have changed in the last 100 plus years, our commitment to producing superior products, providing exceptional customer service and operating with integrity remains unchanged. BASO Gas Products LLC….firing you up since 1914.

HVAC

Central heating systems have a primary heating appliance, such as a furnace, typically located in your basement or garage. All furnaces consist of these components, burners that deliver and burn fuel, heat exchanger, a blower and a flue that acts as an exhaust for gaseous by-products. Direct spark or Hot Surface ignitions operate and control the furnace. Combustion gases are generated by the burners in your furnace and passed through a heat exchanger. The return cold air from your home blows across the heat exchanger to be warmed. It is then blown through a system of ducts to distribute around your home.

CATALYTIC HEATERS

Catalytic heaters are used to heat buildings or outbuilding to protect oil pipe lines from freezing.  Catalytic Heater Operates when the catalyst is preheated with an electrical heating element for a minimum of 15 minutes. The catalyst needs to reach approximately 300°F in order to allow the thermocouple BASO K14 to electrically hold the thermal electric part of the H19, H17, BGX583 series safety valves open allowing gas flow in from the backside of the heater. The newest Model BE58 series valve can be operated in Explosion proof applications where gases could be present in the room. When the gas mixes in with the hot platinum catalyst and oxygen is present from the surrounding air which causes an oxidation reduction reaction. This raises the catalyst temperature to approximately 900°F at the same time releasing water vapor and carbon dioxide.  The ignition of the natural gas is around 1300°F the reaction is flameless and the pre-heat process is turned off. So long as the catalyst is operating and the thermocouple is receiving heat the safety valves will stay open. If the catalyst is lost the pre-heat process needs to start over. On most conventional catalytic heaters re-ignition needs to be done manually on the valve, now with the BASO remote operator BGX583 or the explosion proof BE58 series you can now operated the valve either by a computer system (PLC) or by a switch that is closer to reach instead of going to the valve making it easier to operate and safer if the valves are in higher locations.

GAS VALVES

These valves automatically control main gas flow. Our automatic pilot valves shut off both the main and pilot gases. Pilot gas is tapped from the main line within the control. Gas will flow only to the pilot burner when the reset button is depressed. The manual pilot valve stop can be adjusted for maximum pilot flow.

HEATERS

Salamander heaters are generally found at construction sites and have been referred to by other names such as "torpedo furnaces," "salamander furnaces" and "salamander." This type of heater can use a variety of manual type valves such as the BASO H17 or H19 series operating with a K series thermocouple. Other types of heaters are garage heaters to maintain comfort during those cold winter days when you want to work on your vehicle or hobby. The garage heater will use one of our BGA series valves and BG1100M or BG1600M series ignition modules.
