Porter Bennett founded BENTEK in 1985, primarily to provide consulting services to the energy industry. In those early days, our products consisted of multi-client and proprietary research projects that primarily targeted large natural gas marketing organizations. The majority of our work was focused on analyzing supply/demand, evaluating natural gas customer needs and evaluating gas and power utility tariffs.
In late 2002, developments in the market began to change the industry's information needs. Traditional sources of data proved to be inadequate for the analysis of a rapidly changing marketplace. To accelerate our access to information, we began utilizing pipeline delivery and receipt volume data that all interstate pipeline and storage companies are required by law to post on their website electronic bulletin board systems (EBBs) several times each day. We developed proprietary technology that automatically gathers, validates, standardizes and warehouses the data, and then delivers it in user-friendly formats. In the following years we have expanded our data collection process to include thousands of sources covering a wide range of energy markets.
