The “Bio” in Bioheat comes from Biodiesel
Biodiesel is produced from a variety of renewable resources, such as plant oils, animal fats, recycled grease, and even algae, making it one of the most sustainable fuels on the planet which is made from agricultural byproducts, co-products and recycled cooking oil from right here in the USA.
Biodiesel:
Bourne’s Energy Biodiesel produces clean burning fuel to ASTM standards. Our sustainable biodiesel is sourced and produced in New England from second use or waste vegetable oil. For that reason Bourne’s Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics. Our Biodiesel is ecologically the best and highest use of waste vegetable oil. Therefore using our Biodiesel you are supporting our commitment to protect the environment, reduce our carbon footprint, and convert a locally generated waste product into a superior alternative fuel for use around New England.
Bioheat
A registered trademarked name whose definition is a liquid fuel that is comprised of a blend of petroleum #2 distillate fuel (heating oil/diesel) and Biodiesel (see above). To meet the definition, the petroleum component must meet the ASTM D396 standard and the biodiesel component must meet the ASTM D6751 standard. If those two criteria are not met, it cannot be called Bioheat®. Remember, biodiesel is a biofuel but not all biofuels are biodiesel. Also, biodiesel is the only acceptable biofuel component in Bioheat®. Tricky stuff, hope this helps.
