HEATING OIL

Oil is a highly stable, combustible, non explosive product. #2 oil contains 139,000 btu’s per gallon, making it a powerful source of heat during the cold months. Colby & Gale has been delivering heating oil to Lincoln County since 1946, and over the years we’ve seen major improvements in the product we deliver and the systems we fuel.

PROPANE

KEROSENE

Kerosene Fill Up Kerosene Fill Up  Colby & Gale strongly suggests using kerosene in all outside oil tanks. Kerosene has a much lower pour point than conventional #2 oil, which helps prevent gelling in your tank. Kerosene contains 135,000 btu’s per gallon.

DIESEL

Diesel fuel is very similar to heating oil, which is used in central heating. It is produced from various sources, the most common being petroleum. Other sources include biomass, animal fats, biogas, natural gas, and coal. Now, diesel fuel is often referred to as ULSD (ultra low sulfur diesel). ULSD is cleaner and contains a maximum sulfur content of 15 ppm.

• “Untaxed” diesel or “off-road diesel” is available in the U.S. mostly for agricultural applications, such as fuel for tractors, recreational and utility vehicles and other noncommercial vehicles not on public roads. This fuel may have higher sulfur levels that exceed on road use limits. Off-road diesel is dyed red so you can easily identify “on-road” from “off-road”.
• Diesel fuel is widely used in most types of transportation. The gasoline powered automobile is the major exception. Unlike gasoline engines, diesel engines do not use spark plugs. An engine running on diesel compresses the air inside the cylinder to high pressures and temperatures causing the fuel to react with the oxygen in the mix, heating and expanding the burning mixture which moves the piston. Diesel engines burn the fuel in more air than is required for the chemical reaction and thus use less fuel than a regular engine.
