The selection of the base material was cricital, and comparisons to the original 1018 steel resulted in Dura-Bar ductile iron outperforming in several areas including machining, coating, and mechanical properties.Dura-Bar outperformed steel in a recent case study with a major air and gas compressor OEM. The per part cost for the compressor rotor was significantly reduced, with adjustments to machining speeds and depth of cut. Several additional performance advantages were also realized.
