A History & Future of Change

Headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi, Ergon, Inc., and its consolidated subsidiaries are built on a foundation of petroleum-related enterprises begun in 1954 by its Chairman, Leslie B. Lampton. Starting as a petroleum retailer with only two employees, Ergon has evolved into a network of market-leading companies employing over 2,300 people. Ergon operates as a sophisticated crude oil processor, transporter and marketer of refined products. It also functions as a producer and marketer of specialty asphalt products, as well as an oil and gas explorer and real estate developer. In addition, Ergon manufactures state-of-the-art road maintenance products and equipment.  The Companys roots are in the petroleum industry service areas, including trucking and propane distribution, marine transportation and petroleum marketing services. Through acquisitions and from merging other company operations into a base of entities that would become Ergon subsidiaries, including ventures in refining, terminaling, asphalt marketing, mid-river operations, exploration, maintenance support and real estate, we have moved forward to become a well-diversified portfolio of companies.

Oil & Gas

Ergons Oil & Gas segment includes some of the oldest and most diverse subsidiaries, offering consistent customer service along with growth through dedication and professional management. The segment is comprised of operations in propane sales, mid-river retail fuel and grocery sales and fleeting services, as well as oil and natural gas exploration and production.Utilizing a fleet of specialized trucks, 28 offices and nearly 70 satellite bulk storage facilities throughout the region, Lampton-Love supplies high-quality propane to over 80,000 residential, commercial and industrial consumers. The Lampton-Love family of companies is always prepared to serve new residential and commercial growth.  Through its "Go Gasman Green" initiative, Lampton-Love converts vehicles to run on propane, a cleaner alternative to traditional fuels. Lampton-Love also converts lawn and golf course equipment to propane, which reduces smog-producing hydrocarbons in that equipment by 60 to 70%.

Exploration and Production

Since 1977, Ergon Exploration, Inc., has been exploring for natural gas and oil as an operator and working interest owner, initially with the Monroe Field in Northern Louisiana. More recently, Ergons primary development activity was centered on the Wolf Creek prospect in East Texas operated by Ergon Energy Partners, LP, (EEP) a wholly owned limited partnership. Utilizing horizontal drilling techniques at depths of over 13,000 feet, EEP developed the Austin chalk zone, traversing clusters of small fractures within the brittle chalk in addition to other hydrocarbon-rich sands in the area. Extensive log analysis helped EEP determine the potential oil and gas while drilling and enhance 3D and 2D seismic information with actual drilling data, improving the probability of success.

Asphalt & Emulsions

Enhancing the success of Ergons diversified operations is the ability to produce, develop and market a variety of asphalt products. Ergon is considered the resource in the asphalt industry. In-house storage of asphalt and equipment ensures that customers are consistently supplied with high-quality asphalt products, while vertically integrated laboratory and research facilities are used to test formulations and develop new products. The global asphalt operations include the worlds leading manufacturer of packaged pavement preservation products, which also manufactures road maintenance equipment. The segments protective coatings division manufactures and distributes engineered surface protection systems for industrial infrastructure.

Refining & Marketing

Refining & Marketing operations make up Ergons largest business segment, encompassing the purchase and conversion of crude oil from a wide variety of qualified sources into specialty petroleum products. These refined products are then marketed and distributed worldwide. The Refining & Marketing companies benefit from strategically positioned storage terminals owned and operated by other Ergon subsidiaries and third parties, which facilitate the ability to quickly transport crude and finished products. Ergon leverages the capacities, knowledge and relationships of two independent, collaborative refineries. Both facilities utilize other subsidiaries to maximize throughput, improve efficiency and control quality.
