Hurd Enterprises, Ltd. is a fourth generation family business that traces its roots back to O.W. Killam. Killam came to South Texas from Oklahoma in 1919 and made the first commercial oil discovery in South Texas outside of Mirando City in 1921. O.W. Killam’s business was continued by Killam & Hurd after his death. Killam & Hurd was a partnership between O.W. Killam’s two sons, Winfield and Radcliffe Killam, and his son-in-law John G. Hurd. Killam & Hurd operated successfully in South Texas from 1946 until its dissolution in 1982. John G. Hurd and his children then organized Hurd Enterprises, Ltd. and opened an office in San Antonio, Texas. San Antonio.

Oil & Gas

Hurd Enterprises, Ltd. And its predecessors have engaged in oil and gas exploration and production since 1921. As one of the most active companies exploring the Wilcox, Frio and Vicksburg trends along the Texas Gulf Coast and in deep South Texas, Hurd Enterprises has developed an extensive knowledge base to support its focused exploration effort.

 RANCHING

Hurd Ranch Company, Ltd. operates a commercial cattle business in South Texas and Southeastern Kansas.  Hurd Ranch’s goal is to produce 850-900 pound feeder steers of exceptionally uniform quality and size that are easy to handle and perform predictably in the feed yard year after year.  Hurd Ranch purchases three-weight exotic cross steer and bull calves with less than one-quarter Brahman influence between August and December of each year. Hurd Ranch expects to have over 5,000 feeder steers available for sale in the Flint Hills between mid-July and mid-September of each year.  If you have cattle to offer or if you would like to purchase cattle from HRC, please contact us.
