History

In 1925, John J. Sullivan gave birth to J.J. Sullivan, Inc., a small company with a three-pump gas station, one truck in a small garage, and little more than five gallon cans of oil and kerosene. From this humble beginning, J.J. Sullivan has grown into a provider of fuel oil and propane services and sales to shoreline residences from East Haven to Old Saybrook, CT. En route to the comprehensive energy company it is today, we have experienced a number of transitions. J.J. Sullivan grew from a gas station to a provider of range oil to a full-service fuel oil and propane company.  Originally located on Boston Post Road, we moved to River Street in the 1950s. J.J. Sullivan enjoyed further growth when we joined forces with Sheehan Oil in 1963 and then Knowles-Lombard in 1988. The ownership and management of the company passed from founder John J. Sullivan to his sons John F. and Tom Sullivan. Today, responsibility for the continued successful operation of the company lies with grandsons Paul and Jim Sullivan and the fourth generation grandson JP (John Peter). Since John J.s retirement, JP has been instrumental in establishing our propane division.  As the business has grown, so has the Sullivan family commitment to be an active part of the Guilford community with many contributions to local charities. With more than three-quarters of a century of expansion and growth, J.J. Sullivan remains a family owned business, combining traditional family values of service excellence with 21st Century efficiency and technology. With a staff of 15 employees and a fleet of trucks, we stand ready to provide you with all of your heating and cooling needs.  J.J.Sullivan has never lost sight of the vision and mission of its original founder, John J. “Sullivan Supreme” Home Heating Oil

Sullivans Supreme At J.J. Sullivan, we are proud to use “Sullivan Supreme” as an additive in each gallon of oil we deliver to our customers. We put this additive in our oil because it prevents sediment from forming in the tank and prevents clogged filters and nozzles. This helps eliminate service problems and promotes greater efficiency for your heating system. Another plus of the “Sullivan Supreme” additive is that it helps oil burn cleaner and hotter, saving you up to 4% on your fuel costs!  Oil distributed by J.J. Sullivan originates in four geographical locations: the Middle East, Mexico, Russia, and the USA. We buy the oil wholesale from Global, Sprague, Inland, and Valero. It is then stored for distribution in our own storage facility which has the capacity to hold in excess of 200,000 gallons.

PROPANE GAS

We deliver efficient and versatile propane gas for your home heating, cooking, water heating, and other indoor and outdoor energy needs. You can depend on J.J. Sullivan, Inc. for professional propane equipment installations, service, and repairs.  Did you know that almost 90% of the propane used in the United States is produced domestically? Therefore, reliability is very high with minimal dependence on foreign suppliers. Propane is also the most universal of residential fuels, having the ability to power a wide range of appliances from a single fuel source. Propane is also eco-friendly; as a burned fuel, it meets all clean air energy standards put forth by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).

Automatic Delivery

J.J. Sullivan takes the burden out of ordering fuel by keeping track of when you need your next delivery with our Automatic Delivery option. By keeping track of Degree Days, we can provide accurate guesstimates concerning when you need your next delivery. We develop a personalized schedule which lets us know when you will need propane in your tank. Automatic Delivery is the most efficient manner for delivery, and we offer this free of charge!

24 HOUR EMERGENCY SERVICE

At J.J. Sullivan, Inc., we consider 24 Hour Emergency Service to be a major part of practicing our commitment to “keeping our friends and neighbors warm and comfortable.” If your heating system is in need of repair during normal business hours, after hours, and even on holidays and weekend, we will be there to assist you. We pride ourselves on responding to heat emergencies around the clock. Using our own licensed staff, we respond promptly and well prepared for immediate action.  For air conditioning repairs and service, we respond during daytime hours within 24 hours of the call to our office. We are committed to showing you that we care about your home comfort and providing you with superior service!

J. J. Sullivan oil and propane technicians are able to professionally install and service whichever system meets your houses requirements. All work and equipment is under warranty.  After your new oil or propane heating system is installed, it is important that you schedule annual maintenance to keep it running safely and at peak efficiency for years to follow. We offer comprehensive service plan options to further protect your heating equipment.
