Located in Cleveland County, North Carolina, the Kings Mountain Energy Center is a 475-megawatt natural gas-fired electric generating facility. NTE Energy developed, built and commissioned into operation the $440 million facility, which has the capacity to power some 400,000 homes and is a major economic development driver for the surrounding region. One of the cleanest and most efficient plants in the nation, the Kings Mountain Energy Center employs Mitsubishi’s advanced combustion turbine technology in a combined-cycle configuration. By capturing waste heat to produce steam, the plant is able to generate significantly more electricity from the same amount of fuel, resulting in greater efficiency and a dramatic drop in emissions.
