With service centers and manufacturing facilities across the globe, we aim to be near areas of major mining activity to support our customers directly and collaborate regularly.  Komatsu was founded in Japan in 1921, but our brand histories date back even further, to 1884 in Milwaukee, WI, USA, where the P&H mining brand was founded and is still headquartered today. Our leading Joy brand of underground and hard rock mining solutions was founded in 1919 in Indiana and is now headquartered in Warrendale, PA, USA.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Commitment to community is in our DNA: Komatsu was founded in 1921 to provide jobs and sustainable growth for the residents of Komatsu City, Japan, when the local copper mine was approaching the end of its usable life.  In the decades since, as our company has grown to include more than 60,000 employees worldwide, we remain committed to acting locally while thinking globally. Through global teamwork and partnerships with customers and suppliers, we work to address societal issues that impact us all.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts fall into three areas of focus:

• Enhancing quality of life: Providing products, technologies and services that equip society to grow and enhance global environmental conservation.
• Developing people: Supplying educational, workforce development opportunities within our business as well as in our communities.
• Growing with society: Supporting organizations that deliver essential human services by working to decrease poverty, hunger and homelessness.

With these challenges in mind, we are helping bring mining performance to the next level.  Through Smart Solutions, we help solve our customer’s toughest challenges using data-driven intelligence, collaboration through partnership and experienced-based service execution. It is a solutions-based offering designed to help reduce costs and increase productivity for customers, while helping them achieve or exceed their operating and financial goals. The program integrates:

• Data and analytics as well as operator training
• Direct engagement with the customer, focused on helping the customer achieve value through our direct service
• Engagement with the equipment designers; the customer is just one call away from the person who designed the machine
