MCE is a not‐for‐profit, community‐based electricity provider that gives customers the choice of having 50% to 100% of their electricity supplied from clean, renewable sources such as solar, wind, biogas, geothermal and hydroelectricity at competitive rates. MCE’s service area includes Marin County, Napa County, and the cities of Benicia, El Cerrito, Lafayette, San Pablo, Richmond and Walnut Creek.  MCE was formed in 2008 and launched service to customers in 2010, becoming California’s first Community Choice Aggregation program. As a local public agency, MCE is governed by a 19-member Board of Directors comprised of one elected Councilmember or Supervisor from each of our member communities. Each city, town or county appoints an elected official to represent their community. The Board of Directors meets monthly at public meetings to determine policy and administration decisions for MCE.

The cheapest energy is the energy you don’t use. So while we keep our energy rates as low as possible, we also help you reduce your energy usage while increasing your comfort. Reducing how much electricity you use saves resources and saves you money. It’s a win-win.

MCE offers rebates, technical assistance and financing for businesses and multifamily properties. Take advantage of our no-cost, walk-through energy assessments for qualifying business and multifamily properties. We also offer direct install measures — like swapping out incandescent bulbs for high efficiency lighting and installing water saving fixtures — at little to no cost to you.
