Modern Water owns, installs and operates world-leading membrane technologies and develops and supplies advanced systems for water monitoring.

Our Membrane Process division uses its world-leading Forward Osmosis (FO) technology platform in a number of membrane processes including: desalination, evaporative cooling systems, enhanced oil recovery and hydro osmotic power (HOP).

The Monitoring division has developed some of the world’s most advanced systems for monitoring and improving water quality. It brings together Modern Water’s market-leading acute toxicity monitoring systems for online, portable and lab use with global environmental and process monitoring products and technologies.

Modern Water owns proprietary technologies aimed at addressing the scarcity of fresh water and the treatment of wastewater for reuse or for safe environmental discharge.

The Group’s wastewater treatment technologies cover two principal areas:
Poseidon – wastewater technology for the treatment of saline effluents (municipal or industrial) and seawater substitution.
AguaCure – applications for removing dissolved contaminants from water without the use of chemical addition.

These wastewater technologies offer solutions for the treatment of difficult wastewaters as well as significant environmental benefits over traditional processes and substantial reductions in energy use and chemical consumption.

Modern Water’s Poseidon processes use patented wastewater treatment technology for the treatment of saline municipal and industrial effluent or for seawater substitution.

Poseidon technology allows the safe and reliable treatment of saline effluents to fully meet the most stringent international wastewater discharge standards. It also allows seawater to be substituted instead of costly potable water in municipal/domestic sewage facilities or in applicable industrial water systems. In domestic applications this can reduce the requirement for fresh water by up to 30%. The technology is proven to be effective at a wide range of saline concentrations and on applications where saline concentrations are subject to fluctuations. 

Modern Water is a principal partner in the consortium which is currently the preferred bidder on the Gibraltar Wastewater Treatment Plant Design, Build, Finance and Operate (DBFO) project, a 60,000 population equivalent saline treatment works.
