About Company

Integrated Building and Energy Management Systems

Next Control Systems is a building and energy management company, specialising in the design, engineering, installation and commissioning of award winning integrated solutions for over twenty years.

The foundations of all integrated solutions from Next Control Systems is that they are built on the idea of optimising the performance of the existing investment in building technology, associated plant and services thereby creating sustainable energy and operational cost savings and reducing the carbon footprint for all our customers in Retail, Hotel and Leisure, Healthcare, Education and Government sectors.

Cloud-based Services

Our intelligent Building Optimisation System (iBOS®) is a cloud-based toolset that is capable of managing multiple data sets including environmental, energy and occupant satisfaction.

Technology Agnostic

iBOS® is BeMS and metering technology agnostic and converges building technology data with IT based platforms and visualisations.  iBOS® scales from single buildings to worldwide estates and integrates independent building technologies to form an interoperable system.

Single Site or Estate Wide Solutions

Next Control Systems offers a complete range of building management and energy management services that can be implemented as a fully integrated managed solution or selected individually to overlay existing management systems in place for both single and multi-building operators in all industry sectors.

Our ability to acquire data from any building technology means that disparate systems and technology brands can be integrated into a single suite of graphical user interfaces and management information dashboards without the need for ‘black boxes’ or protocol conversion devices.

Sustainable Savings

The breadth of options available within our energy management services offering provide a truly end-to-end solution, encompassing not only the traditional BeMS and metering components, but additionally HVAC plant and other building technologies such as refrigeration and lighting.

Estates, buildings, plant and individual components can all be optimised, profiled and then monitored to ensure that performance standards and efficiencies are maintained.

Accelerating Value with Minimal Investment

Optimising the performance of the existing plant and installed technology produces an immediate reduction in energy costs, often with minimal investment.

Additional funding can be gathered from programs such as Automated Demand Response (ADR) and Electricity Demand Reduction (EDR) and we can assist with both the technical implementation and the Measurement & Verification (M&V) requirements of these schemes.

Expert Integrators

Although  we represent a number of technology providers,we have highly developed integration skills born from a successful track record of interfacing disparate technologies.  Next Control Systems are able to design and construct building and energy management solutions to achieve very specific client needs according to budget and strategic objectives.

Web-Based for Total Flexibility

Our suite of tools is entirely web-based and accessible from any web-enabled device irrespective of operating platform.  Being web-based, there is minimal operational impact during installation and estate-wide deployment can occur simultaneously. This ensures that our tools are totally future proof, universally deployable through standard Ethernet and/or wireless infrastructure, and eliminates software updates at the machine level.

Our ‘Data Security Policy’ and ‘Business Continuity Plan’ are available on request but essentially all data is stored on mirrored servers located in Portsmouth and Canary Wharf.

Data Integration

Our energy management systems are able to gather data from the widest range of sources – meter operators (MOPs), data collectors (DCs), the existing BeMS in place and all sub-metering.

Data can be integrated seamlessly from the data collector in any format; whether e-mail of CSV file or directly to our secure servers via FTP (file transfer protocol).

Customised Visualisation and Energy Dashboards

With the capability to extract data from any BeMS or electrical metering solution, our energy management systems provide web-based graphical user interfaces and dashboards using industry standard protocols HTML5 and Silverlight. As such, graphical packages from Next Control Systems avoid expensive licensing, are completely flexible and are almost infinitely customisable.

Wired and Wireless Metering Solutions

Available down to sub-circuit and socket level, Next Control Systems can provide metering solutions for both main and sub-meters. Metering can be both wired and/or wireless implementations using industry standard protocols such as GSM, ModBus, M Bus, KNX and ZigBee.

Demand Side Management

As our solutions are technology agnostic, we can seamlessly integrate with automated demand response (ADR) providers to facilitate access to the revenue streams available during peak demand periods.

Our energy profiles assist customers to maximise the revenues available by providing a deep understanding of the environmental and operational impact of the curtailed loads and maximise the time periods that they can be curtailed.

Red Zone Management

The 10 UK Electricity Distribution Network Operators (DNO’s) have standardised their charging structure for delivering electricity and charges are now based on Red, Amber and Green time zones, with the Red zone being the weekday late afternoon period (typically 16:00 -19:30).

The charges are intended to restrict peak time usage of half hourly Industrial and Commercial customers. The typical DUoS charging represents around 12% of a typical utility bill.

Our energy profiles can identify areas to reduce consumption during these periods without impacting the environmental or operational requirements.

Triad Management

Triads are the three peak half hourly periods of national electricity demand each winter (Nov-Feb) and form the basis of Transmission Network Use of System (TNUoS) charges to HH electricity customers. The charges are regionally based and during the Triad period, taking London as an example your normal £0.10 kWh will increase to £38.80 kWh for these three half hour windows.

Our solution combines Triad warning signals (forecasting when the Triads are likely to happen) with automated control that minimises your usage during these costly half hour periods.  The peaks normally occur on weekdays between 5 and 6pm.

Energy Profiling

Proactive analysis of the operational and energy functions of a building enables optimisation of its performance by creating the perfect energy profile. Constant adjustments ensure that the building is operating at its peak efficiency throughout the seasonal changes of the year or any change in occupancy or use.

Driving savings targets, automated monitoring systems compare the actual environmental and energy data against the expected profile, and will report poor loop performance, manual interventions (set point overrides, time schedule changes, manual overrides) and excessive utility consumption.
