About Company

Welcome to the NIC Holding Corp web site. It is designed to familiarize you with our company, our products, and our services - so that we can better serve you.  In the NY metro area NIC Holding Corp is best known for its subsidiary Northville Industries, a petroleum storage, distribution and wholesale company. The terminal complex, comprised of 1.4 million barrels, stores and distributes refined products both for Northville marketing and for other companies. The marketing division sells heating oil, gasoline, diesel, and kerosene, and is especially proud of its commitment to renewable fuels—including B5 blends of heating oil and diesel, as well as Ethanol Flex Fuel, a high level ethanol-gasoline blend containing 70-80% ethanol depending upon your geographical location and season, for Flex Fuel vehicles. Since Northville began marketing E85 Flex Fuel it has sold over 35 million gallons, reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 81,000 metric tons.  NIC Holding Corps most significant activities include the domestic and international purchase, sale, and exchange of cargoes, barges, in-tank transfers and pipeline shipments of petroleum products. In addition NIC takes positions on regulated commodity futures exchanges and is a clearing member of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Operations are run from its headquarters in Melville, Long Island, New York, as well as satellite offices in Houston, Texas and Nyon, Switzerland.  In addition to these businesses, NIC Holding Corp is the managing partner of Petroterminal de Panama, a Panamanian corporation that operates petroleum storage facilities on both the Pacific and the Caribbean coasts, and an 80 mile pipeline that connects the 2 terminals. The Caribbean port also handles both container and bulk dry cargo shipments.  Northville has succeeded as a 3rd generation family business by placing a high priority on:

  • Customer service
  • State of the art information technology
  • Entrepreneurial responses to changes in the petroleum industry

Northville wholesales a variety of refined petroleum products, including #02 heating oil, gasoline, diesel, and kerosene. The company is deeply committed to marketing renewable fuels for a variety of reasons:

  • They reduce our dependence on foreign oil and the geo-political complications that can arise therefrom.
  • They reduce our balance of payments deficit.
  • They burn cleaner and reduce harmful emissions.
  • They support American farmers.
  • They create domestic jobs.

Products

  • In addition to mandated E10 gasoline, Northville is proud to be one of the few companies in the area offering Ethanol Flex Fuel. This gasoline is composed of 85% ethanol—made from renewable agricultural products—and 15% traditional gasoline, dramatically reducing our demand for petroleum while simultaneously reducing tail pipe emissions.   According to the Greater Long Island Clean Cities Coalition 2011 Annual Report, Northvilles sale of Ethanol Flex Fuel displaced 2,174,111 gallons of gasoline equivalent, reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 5,435.5 tons. This represents the largest reduction of GHG on Long Island of any privately held company in the report.
  • This Product meets Colonial Pipeline #55 grade -Low sulphur which will soon be changing to Colonial Pipeline # 61 grade - Ultra low sulphur. The quality is pristine and used in space heating for homes as well as co-gen turbines to produce electricity for Long Island.
  • Since 2008 Northville has been selling B5 #02 heating oil, comprised of 5% biofuel and 95% traditional heating oil. In New York, consumers can claim a $.01/gallon tax credit for every 1% of bio fuel, or in this case $.05 per gallon purchased.

Clean products are delivered by ship or barge to Northvilles Port Jefferson terminal. Vessels discharge at either:

  • The Tanker Berth: Maximum length is 700 with a maximum beam of 106. The MLW draft is 35, but vessels must enter through a channel with only 26depth.
  • The North Berth: Maximum length is 350 with a maximum beam of 75 The MLW draft is 20

Holtsville Terminal

  • Located 9 miles south of the East Setauket Tank Farm, this facility has 12 floating roof tanks and 3 cone roof tanks. Storage capacity totals 380,000 barrels(15,960,000 Gallons).
  • Distillates are loaded from the 8 positions at the East Rack, which has both top and bottom loading facilities for #2 fuel oil, diesel, and kerosene.
  • Gasoline (with additive capability) and #2 fuel oil are loaded from the 7 positions on the West Rack, which has bottom loading facilities only.
