Our History of Quality Service

With a history dating back more than 85 years, today North Shore Fuel serves the entire North Shore and Greater Boston Area. Weve grown into more than just an Oilheat delivery provider. From Oilheat and gas heat equipment installations and maintenance to central air conditioning services, North Shore Fuel is a full-service heating and cooling service provider.  North Shore Fuel was started in 1930 when company founder Max Litman began supplying heating coal to the working-class neighborhood of Revere, Massachusetts. During World War II, when many local men were shipped overseas helping to defend our country, North Shore Fuel continued to supply coal and also began delivering heating oil to ensure our neighbors homes were kept warm and comfortable.  As the decades passed, North Shore Fuel evolved with the times, embracing modern convenience and technological advancements in order to better serve our customers. While technology has changed over the years, one thing that hasnt and never will change is our full-service commitment to our customers.  In 2015, North Shore Fuel partnered with another local longtime family-run business, MacFarlane Energy. Together MacFarlane Energy and North Shore Fuel are providing North Shore customers with top-notch service to meet their diverse heating, cooling, fueling, and efficiency needs.

The biggest difference between North Shore Fuel and our competitors is the outstanding performance of our service department. It is easy to take heating and cooling technicians for granted, but there are differences between companies that affect your bottom line.   For example, new heating and cooling equipment must be installed with precision to deliver maximum comfort and perform at peak efficiency. In fact, the ENERGY STAR program reports that an imperfect installation can diminish equipment efficiency by 30 percent.   Technicians are the only line of defense between you and an equipment breakdown. Fuels

• Heating oil is evolving toward greater cleanliness and renewability, and we are preparing to adopt new fuel blends as they become more available and affordable. The heating oil industry is actively promoting the use of ultra-low sulfur heating oil, which offers cleaner emissions due to the reduction of sulfur content. That cleaner fuel will be blended with renewable biofuel to create a blend that burns with very low emissions while helping to reduce demand for petroleum. 
• The heating oil that North Shore Fuel delivers today is a mix of petroleum and biofuel, and we will look to increase the biofuel component of the fuel (and reduce the petroleum content) as biofuel becomes more available and affordable. A blend of 95 percent petroleum and 5 percent biofuel is already approved for use in all heating oil systems. Biofuel is made from organic materials such as plants and waste cooking oil. 
• We deliver diesel and biodiesel for use in emergency backup generators that provide electricity in the event of a power outage. 

Automatic Delivery

Automatic delivery is a great convenience that truly costs you nothing (more about that below). Instead of watching your fuel gauge and placing an order every time you need a delivery, entrust North Shore Fuel to keep you supplied. We plan your delivery dates in advance and adjust to changing weather conditions, which we monitor with a Degree Day system. If the weather is mild, deliveries are less frequent. If the weather is cold, our truck arrives sooner.   There are cynics who believe that oil companies take advantage of Automatic Delivery to make deliveries when prices are highest. We cant speak for any other companies, but we can promise you that we will never do that. Treating customers fairly every day is our promise at North Shore Fuel.   Automatic delivery does help us keep overhead down, because we can plan our delivery schedule for maximum efficiency with a minimum of wasted mileage—which helps us keep costs low.
