Pen Bay Oil Co. has been providing heating oil service to the Midcoast Maine area since 1955. Our History
In 1946, E. Maynard Graffam Sr. and his partners formed parent company Penobscot Bay Ice Co., Inc. The business consisted of cutting ice on Lily Pond and delivering it to the residents of Rockport. In addition to ice cutting, Maynard got into the business of shipping live Maine lobster throughout the US and around the world. Several years later, the company diversified again and added Pen Bay Oil Co. to deliver home heating oil to the residents of Rockport and surrounding towns. Upon the death of Maynard in 1969, his sons Jim and Sandy carried on in the tradition of their father with a strong commitment to serving the community.

Since that time, Pen Bay Oil has grown to include burner service and installations, LP deliveries and service, and K-1 Kerosene. Though Sandy and Jim have both passed away, Sandy’s daughter Kim has been carrying on the traditions set forth by the previous generations.In late 2016, Pen Bay Oil became a part of Maritime Energy, another multi-generational company, locally owned and operated. Kimberlee Graffam is still managing Pen Bay Oil and joins with the Ware family to bring many years of history and experience as well as being active members of the communities that we serve.
