Red Giant began doing business in 1910 selling oil and other products to farmers and farm equipment dealers in the Midwest. The name was later changed to E-Z Manufacturing Company and incorporated in the year 1946. Just two years later, our name was permanently changed to Red Giant Oil Company.  Fred J. Galvani, who had been a salesman for the company, purchased Red Giant Oil Company in 1959. Five years later, he purchased Searle Petroleum Company from the Harry Searle family, which had owned and operated that lubrication business since 1889.  In the mid 1980’s, Red Giant Oil/Searle Petroleum Company began selling new railroad engine oil to two Class 1 railroads. Today, the company is the largest supplier of locomotive engine oil in North America.  Fred Galvani continued working at the company along with his son-in-law, Gary L. Bills, until his death in 2004. With the untimely death of Mr. Bills in 2005, the company became woman-owned by Fred’s widow, Lorraine Galvani, and his daughter, Sherryl G. Bills-Taylor.  Red Giant Oil continued to operate under Sherryl’s leadership for the next 13 years.  On August 1st, 2018, HollyFrontier Corporation, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, purchased Red Giant Oil upon Sherryl’s decision to retire.  At that time, the company’s name officially changed to Red Giant Oil Company LLC.  HollyFrontier Corporation is an independent petroleum refiner and marketer that produces high value light products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel and other specialty products.  HollyFrontier operates through its subsidiaries a 135,000 barrels per stream day (“bpsd”) refinery located in El Dorado, Kansas, a 125,000 bpsd refinery in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a 100,000 bpsd refinery located in Artesia, New Mexico, a 52,000 bpsd refinery located in Cheyenne, Wyoming and a 45,000 bpsd refinery in Woods Cross, Utah. HollyFrontier markets its refined products principally in the Southwest U.S., the Rocky Mountains extending into the Pacific Northwest and in other neighboring Plains states. In addition, HollyFrontier, through its subsidiary, owns Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc., whose Mississauga, Ontario facility produces 15,600 barrels per day of base oils and other specialized lubricant products, and owns a 57% interest and a non-economic general partner interest in Holly Energy Partners, L.P.

RAILROAD

With annual production of nearly 24 million gallons, we are one of the leaders in the Medium Speed Diesel Engine Oil Industry. We blend both single and multi-grade oils and offer only OEM approved additive package technology. Our Zinc-free assurance is the result of a segregated system from the initial blending process to final delivery (blend plant and tanker fleet assigned exclusively to the production and handling of zinc-free products).

USED OIL RECLAMATION

Red Giant Oil Company LLC has been recycling oil for over 40 years and we meet all state and federal regulations for doing so. We have onsite laboratories at many of our facilities that allow us to analyze oil before we recycle it to ensure that there are no hazardous properties in the product which minimizes the generator’s liability. Our onsite laboratories also allow us to provide our customers with a Certificate of Analysis for each outgoing load to certify that it meets all state and federal requirements as well as any special requirements of the end user whether it be a re-refinery or someone burning the oil for energy recovery. We also have numerous centrifuges that allow us to mechanically separate impurities from oil in addition to the chemical and thermal treatments that we employ in the recycling process. When we finish processing the oil, we analyze it to verify that it is an “On Specification Fuel Oil” that is suitable for whatever use the buyer intends to use it for.  Red Giant Oil Company LLC has the capacity to handle the recycling needs of waste streams for large industrial generators like mines and railroads.

TRANSLOADING

Red Giant Oil Company LLC operates our own fleet of tractors and tank trailers. Currently, our trailer fleet is designated exclusively for either new or used oil transportation and there is no commingling of product which ensures product integrity on both fronts. With rail transportation directly into our facility, we are able to load and unload railcars effectively. With our shuttlewagon, we can accommodate internal movement of tank cars… almost 100 per month. Be assured that your products are always professionally handled by our knowledgeable drivers.

OIL ANALYSIS LAB

Red Giant Oil Company LLC has our own oil analysis labs located in our Iowa and Texas facilities to complement our other services and products in testing both new and used oil. We use state-of-the-art equipment and can handle most analytical requirements associated with our customers’ needs. Customers are given a login to our lab results which show the findings from our tests and any assessments regarding what the results may suggest.  Furthermore, trend analysis capability on used oil testing is available to customers who want to be proactive. Our trained oil analysis experts will work with you in evaluating results and come to any conclusions based on our testing.
