SolaRover Responds to Sandy
During 21 days of near-continuous and mostly autonomous operation, the SolaRover Mojave-3+ hybrid mobile solar generator produced about 610kW-hours of electric power, using only 12 gallons of diesel fuel (±$112) in the midst of winter storms. A comparable diesel generator would produce that power at a fuel cost alone of almost $500... add maintenance and operators... add noise and pollution. If fuel is not available, or runs out in a few days, the diesel is non-op... period.
