Why Solar Gaines As an organization Solar Gaines has never aspired to follow in the footsteps of the large national solar companies in providing all things to all people.  Instead, the Baltimore-based company has made it its mission to improve the way people and companies in Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, Pennsylvania & Delaware generate, consume and pay for electricity.  To achieve this, Solar Gaines brought together the talents of its two founders, lifelong friends Tom Gaines and Hans Wittich.  This coupling created a company that is backed, on the one hand, by more than 35 years’ construction experience and, on the other, by the knowledge of a lifelong finance professional.  This team at the top is a crucial part of why Solar Gaines is so successful.  The company not only installs state-of-the-art equipment, but it does so utilizing a complex web of tax incentives and financial inducements that make solar a highly advantageous investment.  With these founders guiding the way, Solar Gaines mission is to help everyone they can enjoy cleaner, less-expensive electricity. They do it by taking care of all the details along the way, handling all of the work courteously and expertly, and then standing behind it all in the way that only a neighbor would.  Better electricity is very important, but so is the power of people you can count on. 

You could say that solargaines has been almost 30 years in the making. Since the 1980’s (back when the sun was simply something you sat under to get a tan), President Tom Gaines and his team at the construction/ contracting firm Hencken & Gaines, have built a reputation for doing high quality work, on time, and in budget.  You don’t stay in business for 30 years without that kind of integrity. And because we’ve always stayed current on building trends and advances, we’ve been watching the growth of solar energy.  What started as experimental and very pricey has now become a smart financial and lifestyle decision. So we’re applying what we learned in three decades of successful building to an industry that we think is only going to keep growing. For us, the move to solar represents a natural evolution. We’ve assembled a very smart team, acquired the best technology, and we’re grounding everything in some rather old fashioned values of service, hard work, honesty and respect.
