Residential solar or grid tied systems have been exploding in popularity around the world. With new panel efficiencies, and pricing continuing to get cheaper more and more people are installing solar. A grid tied solar system uses the power grid as your battery, when you produce power it offsets the power you use by selling it back to your utility. In BC we are lucky to currently have some of the lowest hydro prices in the country, with the increase in electric cars, new capital projects (Site C Dam) and replacing aging infrastructure our rates are forecast to continue to increase. Solar components are typically warrantied for 25 years and the payback period is often 15 years without any government incentives. Grid tied systems can give you peace of mind that regardless of the rates you will be producing your own power, the higher the rates get the quicker your system pays for itself.
