Spectra was formed in 1993 and is an integrated company, a combination of Spectra Environmental Group, Inc. and its affiliate Spectra Engineering, Architecture and Surveying, P.C. along with the newest affiliate Spectra Subsurface Imaging Group LLC. Spectra provides comprehensive environmental, structural, and civil engineering services, as well as surveying and subsurface imaging services to clients throughout the northeast. The owners, Mr. Robert C. LaFleur and Mr. John H. Shafer, P.E., have over 50 years of experience in engineering, environmental analysis, planning, and management.
Spectra's headquarters are conveniently located in Latham, New York, near the New York State agencies and offices, such as the Department of Environmental Conservation, Thruway Authority, Department of Transportation, Office of General Services, and many other state offices. Spectra also maintains offices in Syracuse and Poughkeepsie, New York, giving us a geographic advantage across the state.
Spectra has approximately 40 employees that specialize in environmental engineering, hydrogeology, civil engineering, computer mapping, and land surveying.

Spectra offers engineering design, environmental services, structural inspections, construction inspection, land surveying, and ground penetrating radar services to its government, municipal, commercial and private sector clients. Spectra is licensed to provide engineering and land surveying services in New York and New Jersey, and we have provided environmental services all over the east coast as well as Puerto Rico and Brazil.
Spectra’s infrastructure team is highly experienced in bridge design, highway design, bridge inspections, railroad design, municipal engineering, and site/civil projects. Our construction inspection, environmental, and surveying services complement our infrastructure team. Spectra’s infrastructure group is experienced managing locally-administered federal aid projects.
