For over 35 years, Sun City Solar has been designing, installing, and repairing solar systems in the Mid-South US. From Arkansas to Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, and even Kansas we’ve worked on everything from solar hot water and pool heaters to whole-home solar. Solar Basics

  Solar Electricity is also known as Photovoltaics (PV). PV systems provide electricity for buildings such as homes, offices, factories, and utilities through panels (PV modules) that can be mounted on the ground or on rooftops.  Solar energy is a renewable source of energy. It can be used to produce electricity as long as the sun rises in the morning. As long as we are alive, we are always going to see the sun, which means it is infinite. This unlimited source of energy can be harnessed by installing a solar electric system and creating your own power plant to supply your energy needs.

How it Works

• The sun shines on the PV modules and produces a flow of electrons that the system converts into Direct Current (DC) electricity.

• The DC electricity is fed into a solar inverter that converts it into Alternating Current (AC) electricity. AC electricity is used to power your home and all of your appliances.

• The inverter is wired to a utility required disconnect and into your main electrical panel that feeds electricity into your home. If there is an immediate need for electricity as it is being produced, the home uses the solar power directly.

• Any electricity not required by your home goes back into the utilities main power grid for others to use or stored in a battery bank for future use. In states with Net Metering, your meter will run backwards and the utility will credit your bill for the excess energy sent back to the grid.

• The utilities main power grid acts as a “bank” or “battery” – excess power is exported to the main grid when you do not need it and you take power back from the grid when needed (nighttime).

Monitoring system 

A monitoring system for your solar array ensures that everything is operating efficiently and alerts you to any problems that may arise. A monitoring system will ensure you are getting the most out of your solar investment by allowing you to make sure the system is operating as designed and intended. If a module or inverter stops working properly, the monitoring system will show an error alerting the owner to a potential issue. With real-time error alerts, it allows the error to be diagnosed and fixed quickly to ensure minimal down time and lost production.  Monitoring systems installed by Sun City Solar allow a solar owner to have detailed real-time information on their system through both a smart phone app and a web-based site. Detailed information includes current energy production as well as detailed historical production on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.  In order to view the solar production details online, the monitoring system must be connected to the internet.

Service & Repair

Most solar arrays require minimal maintenance and repairs since there are very few moving parts. There are systems working today that have produced energy for 30+ years with no issues or repairs.  Normally when there is an issue or an error, it is related to the inverter or to a battery backup system. Online and local monitoring systems allow an owner to quickly determine if there is an issue going on with the solar array. Through the online monitoring system, Sun City Solar can usually diagnose and repair an issue without ever needing to visit the site. This means your system is back up and running as quickly as possible without costing you lost production.  If an issue cannot be resolved and the equipment must be replaced, Sun City Solar will assess the equipment warranty and work with the equipment manufacturers to facilitate any paperwork associated with the warranty claim.
