About Company
Superior Pellet Fuels, LLC is an Alaska based company created exclusively to manufacture wood pellets utilizing locally available raw materials. All product is consumed in the state of Alaska. Owners, Deb and Dale Rich understand the importance of having a clean fuel source available to Alaskans, especially for areas of the state struggling to meet federally mandated air quality standards. Of equal importance is the fact that the money families pay for heating fuel with Superior Pellet Fuels will stay in Alaska rather than going out of state.  The pellet mill will utilize wood waste streams from local sawmills, land clearing projects, and fire breaks set by forest management in the state as the primary raw material supply. This not only allows for use of raw materials to create an economical fuel source, it also puts money in the state’s coffers and encourages additional development in the timber industry.

If you would like to have more information on using Superior Pellet Fuels to heat your facility or home, give us a call or schedule to stop by and talk with us. We would welcome the opportunity to tell you more about how we can take the worry away from the ever increasing cost of heating your home with bio-fuels. We invite you to plan now for the heating season and better manage your heating costs by switching to Superior Pellet Fuels.

Pellet fuel has several advantages over cordwood, woodchips or other forms of wood as heating fuel because the consistent manufacturing process produces a uniform fuel source. The moisture content of pellet fuel is lower and more consistent, and it produces more heat per unit of weight, making it a more efficient fuel. It also burns cleaner, and takes less space to store, about four to five times less than that of cordwood by weight.  Heating oil and gas prices continue to rise. Fuel supplies are uncertain. Pellet Heat provides a reliable alternative.  Pellet fuel is a biomass energy product made of wood residue and other plant materials.Pellets are made from 100% wood waste material. Using pellets helps reduce the costs and problems of waste disposal. Each year millions of cubic yards of waste are diverted from landfills and converted into pellets for home heating. By recycling this wood waste into a clean burning and high heat value fuel we are helping to reduce our over-dependence on fossil fuels.  The source of wood pellets is renewable each year, creating a stable heating source. The price of wood pellets is not subject to world affairs and foreign price setting. Over time, wood pellet fuel has been very stable and remains the most reliable, cost-effective heating choice.

Our Facility

  • Our State of the Art 10,000 square foot wood pellet plant can process 12 tons of green material every hour. That will, in turn, make approximately 6 tons of pellets. With this mill, the pellet-making process is almost self-sufficient, requiring just over a dozen people to keep it running smoothly.
  • The raw material begins in the Reclaim Feeder where it begins to move its way through the system. The Reclaim Feeder regulates the amount of material fed to the conveyors. The First Conveyor moves the raw material from the Reclaim Feeder to the Hammer Mill. The Hammer Hog is the first Hammer Mill. It grinds material from up to chord wood size down to less than one inch in diameter.
  • The Material Cyclone pulls the raw material from the Second Hammer Mill and separates the air from the raw material. The raw material is stored in a bin that feeds into the dryer system. The Burner is a 24 million BTU burner. We screen all of our finished product and the material that does not meet our quality specifications cycles back to a storage bin and is fed to the burner as the primary fuel for drying the raw materials. The secondary fuel for this is propane, which operates as an igniter fuel and pilot light.
  • Our Dryer System uses a rotary drum dryer manufactured by Solagen, Inc. It is capable of drying up to 14 tons of green material every hour. Once the product is dried it is transported back into the building. It is fed into the prebin which dispurses the dried raw material to the two pellet mills. The pellet mills are manufactured by Buhler. They are each capable of producing 3-4 tons of pellets per hour.
  • The material travels through a drag conveyor and elevator to the cooler.  Air moves through the cooler in order to cool down the product from the pellet mills.
