About Company

Triangle Biofuels Industries, Inc. (TBI) is a regional biodiesel refinery in the renewable energy industry.  The company’s business is to recycle used cooking oil and other fats into renewable biodiesel for blending use in the petroleum diesel markets.  The company owns and leases equipment and property in mid-North Carolina, strategically placed near the Selma Oil Terminals and major interstate and highway intersections leading to other states.  The production refinery has a nameplate capacity of 5MGY and utilizes a hybrid semi-continous batch reaction method for transesterification, yielding a consistent product with generally better cold-soak performance and combustion characteristics than their competitors. The company operates in the following markets:  fleets, marine, agricultural, bulk blending, commercial and retail sales.  TBI was established in 2005 with its current operations located in Wilson, NC started in 2008.  At TBI, we’re committed to making a clean, renewable fuel called biodiesel that is recycled from used cooking grease. We believe that biodiesel, unlike many other “alternative fuels”, is a drop-in solution to our dependency on foreign oil. Biodiesel is here now. It requires no engine modification, no new fueling infrastructure, can be blended in any ratio with diesel fuel, and used intermittently if desired. Just simply pour it in, and it works.  Biodiesel creates jobs, keeps money and natural resources here at home, and provides a cleaner burning alternative fuel that is produced right here in America.  We are the largest biodiesel producer in North Carolina.

Our sterol glucoside controlled biodiesel is made from 100% vegetable oil. We don’t use animal fats, ever. That means better cold weather performance in cold soak performance (100 seconds typical), better cloudpoint (30°F typical), and lower gel point. Try our biodiesel this winter and you will see the difference.  Our fuel is 100% ASTM certified. Made in the USA, and sold in the USA.  Triangle Biofuels Industries (TBI) is a North Carolina based biodiesel producer that makes premium biodiesel from vegetable oils obtained from domestic sources. We buy local and we sell local.  Our target markets are the agricultural, marine, government, residential, commercial and retail diesel consumers that are looking for clean, alternative diesel fuels to help reduce harmful emissions commonly found in petroleum diesel fuels. Our plant is located in Wilson, N.C.  We serve the Raleigh-Durham and Eastern N.C. markets, as well as regional customers interested in renewable biodiesel.

We want your used cooking oil!

Biodiesel Triangle Biofuels Industries collects thousands of gallons of used cooking oil every year and turn it into biodiesel, a renewable fuel that burns cleaner than petroleum.  For a 1 year contract, we provide a FREE collection bin and will service your account on a regular schedule or within 48 hours of notifying us for pickup.  We collect all types of cooking oil, as long it is liquid form and contains only reasonable amounts of food solids or water. Sorry, but we do not take trap grease.  In most cases, we can arrange for trap grease removal by one of our strategic partners.  Many companies claim to recycle your oil into fuel, but usually it ends up in animal feed or is exported.  Recycle it into fuel instead with Triangle Biofuels!  Biodiesel is all we do.  Please use the form below to request new service for used cooking oil collection.  We will contact you to discuss our service agreement and price per gallon for used cooking oil once we start collecting from you.   We can even help get you out of your existing service contract if you need help!

What Is Biodiesel?

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel that is non-toxic, biodegradable, clean burning, and renewable. In the United States, biodiesel is made primarily from various oilseed crops such as soybeans and secondarily from waste vegetable oil (WVO), which is essentially used restaurant cooking oil. Although, it can also be made from virtually any fat or oil, including animal fats, there are specific properties that make oils from crops such as Soybeans, Canola (or Rapeseed), Mustard, or Jatropha, more desirable than other fat sources.  In Europe, the biodiesel industry has been extremely active for about 20 years (especially in Germany and France). The fuel is almost exclusively made from rapeseed oil, a plant that is in the mustard and turnip families. The European variety of rapeseed is not grown in the U.S. because of the climate it needs to thrive, but the canola variety of the plant is grown in many parts of the country and is used for the food industry as well.

Selling to TBI

Interested in selling to TBI? We are currently interested in the following feedstocks and chemicals. Your company must be a licensed entity based in the United States, and have at least three trade references that can verify the quantity and quality of the product you are proposing to sell. Preference will be given to vendors in close proximity to our facility or with low delivery costs.  We buy WVO (waste vegetable oil or used cooking oil), and also purchase soybean oil in large quantities. Please contact us with specs and pricing. Spot and contract oil purchasing proposals are welcome. See below for more details.
