Izmit Refinery started production in 1961 with a crude oil processing capacity of 1 million tons/year. As a result of significant capacity increases and conversion unit investments realized over the years, the design capacity of the refinery was registered as 11.3 million tons/year. The Izmit Refinery, which produces at Euro V standards, is at the center of the consumption center, where approximately 33% of Turkey's petroleum products are consumed.
At the Izmit Refinery, the Residuum Oil Conversion Facility, which converts 4.2 million tons of heavy black products into more valuable 3.5 million tons of environmentally friendly white products, such as gasoline and LPG, mostly diesel, in EU standards, was completed at the end of 2014. With the commissioning of the Fuel Oil Conversion Facility, the Izmit Refinery has become one of the refineries with the highest conversion rate in the world, with a Nelson Complexity value of 14.5.
