About Us

Ventech Systems was formed in the summer of 2010, with the purpose of bringing a set of advanced condition monitoring technologies to the wind energy market.

The background to the company lies in condition monitoring research, primarily in the aerospace sector. We have a tremendous amount of accumulated experience in the development of condition monitoring technology, both in terms of novel sensing devices and data analysis techniques. We also have a long track record in developing data acquisition systems for field applications in a number of demanding environments. This experience has been fully exploited in the development of our current range of products and services.

Key Personnel

Duncan Shepherd - Managing Director

Prior to forming Ventech Systems, Duncan ran the machinery health management group at QinetiQ Farnborough for nearly a decade. In this role, he was responsible for the development of a number of innovative condition monitoring technologies, which were mostly associated with aerospace applications and particularly helicopter transmission diagnostics. During this time he was also responsible for commercial development activities within the business, and was successful in raising over £15M in funding for the group.

Jamie Bending - Engineering Director

Jamie worked within the magnetic and NDE groups at QinetiQ for a combined total of 15 years, during which time he worked on and led a wide variety of research and development projects for data acquisition, monitoring and analysis systems and software. He has an excellent track record of delivering both bespoke and commercial solutions across a variety of market sectors, ranging from low level embedded systems through to shrink wrapped commercial products. In particular, he was responsible for the design and development of the QinetiQ's USB R-Theta Scanning system, was design authority for the ANDSCAN™ system and software manager for the Pinpoint™ advanced analysis software system.

Our products offer a comprehensive hardware solution for vibration based condition monitoring on wind turbines, with a choice of portable and permanently installed systems.

Our data analysis services employ advanced processing algorithms, which allow both very early indications and extremely high levels of fault detection reliability. We consistently strive to provide the most advanced capability available to our customers, giving them the means to maximise their profitability.

Ventech Systems offers a range of services in conjunction with our product range. All aspects of our different services are customisable to suit different situations.

Data Analysis

The primary service offered by Ventech Systems is the analysis of data generated from our data acquisition units, either permanently installed or portable. Whichever type of data is involved, our full analysis technology is applied to ensure that all the important features within the signals are identified and characterised. For permanent systems, the data is analysed ongoingly in order to identify all developing faults as early as possible. For inspection based data, we derive a full characterisation of the indications within the data. Feedback of the output is typically provided in a written report, with the addition of a web based interface for permanent systems.

Analysis of data from 3rd party systems is also possible. 

Collection of Inspection Data

As well as analysing data obtained from inspection programmes, we can also carry out the data collection programme if required. This could be as part of, or separate to, any other inspection programme being undertaken. The measurements acquired are then analysed using our standard methods as described above.

Gearbox and Drive Train Troubleshooting

It is sometimes the case that particular drive trains exhibit abnormal or recurring patterns of behaviour which are not easily attributable to a given cause. In such instances, Ventech Systems offers a troubleshooting service which can provide alternative/additional means of investigating the problem. This consists of taking dedicated measurements with our portable unit, which can subsequently be analysed in detail in conjunction with other relevant information. Using a very comprehensive set of measurements of this type often permits the identification of underlying causes where more conventional methods are unsuccessful.
