Western Dubuque Biodiesel LLC. was formed in November 2005 by a group of eastern Iowa farmers and business people. A site was secured west of the Farley Industrial Park, adjacent to U.S. Highway 20 and the CN railroad.
Western Dubuque Biodiesel is committed to developing and operating a Biodiesel facility that will produce a cost effective and environmentally friendly fuel, while supporting agriculture and reducing America's dependence on foreign oil.
Biodiesel is a clean burning alternative fuel, produced from domestic, renewable resources. It contains no petroleum, but can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a Biodiesel blend. It can be used in diesel engines with no modifications. Biodiesel is biodegradable, nontoxic, and free of sulfur. Biodiesel is made through a chemical process called transesterification. The Biodiesel production process results in two products -- methyl esters (Biodiesel) and glycerin which itself is a byproduct usually sold for the manufacturing of soaps and other products.
