About Company

WindStax Energy is a full-service developer of integrated alternative energy solutions. The company is a pioneer in large vertical wind turbines and microgrids that are changing industry’s perspective of energy as a commodity to energy as an opportunity.

Products & Services

WindStax offers complete wind energy and wind and solar hybrid solutions. We design, fabricate, install, and service systems in the US and select international markets. We focus on commercial and industrial projects ranging from one building to community-wide microgrids and small-scale renewable energy farms. We invented the prosumer – customers who generate and consume their own energy.

Our patented rotor design within a free-standing steel frame is the heart of our turbines. The WindStax 20, WindStax 40, and new WindStax 60 are the largest commercially available vertical axis turbines in the US. Our turbines have logged over one million operating hours in the field. Because we are the manufacturer, each turbine is built to order including custom colors, gearing, and electronics for specific projects. The turbines are approximately 20′, 40′, and 60′ tall installed respectively. See the Questions section for current specifications. Each project is unique. We design, manufacture, install and service our turbines with complete microgrid energy solutions. Systems range from 5kW to 1MW and larger.  Wind and solar generate energy on nearly opposite cycles and are at their best in different seasons and latitudes. Vertical wind turbines in clusters no higher than 60 feet avoid complications of traditional wind farm development and operate in lower wind speeds. They supplement solar energy in marginal solar regions while consuming little land area. Large underserved market potential exists in the US, for example, suburban industrial parks.

WindStax’ current utility-scale product line up with technical specifications and retail pricing is here for single units (PDF 3.2Mb). Just like installing one solar panel versus a solar array, the cost per watt goes down dramatically with multiple units. Our hybrid systems combine wind, solar, traditional energy, with storage cannot be beaten in terms of yield, ROI, and reliability.

Alternative Energy

WindStax® systems can be offset your use and cost of electricity. WindStax can also store electricity for use when there is no wind in our unique microgrid system. Even when there is no wind, WindStax microgrids have power on demand. Using our ZeroFirst™ technology, wind energy becomes the primary source of power relying on the public utility as a back up. The electricity is 120VAC or 240VAC 60Hz, 230AC 50Hz or 24/48/380VDC. In fact, the resulting AC electricity is cleaner and more reliable than many public utilities and can run everything from your air conditioner to sensitive electronics. WindStax offers reliable battery solutions and options including state-of-the-art Lithium Ion and lead acid batteries. All of our high-performance batteries are safe, spill proof, and 100% maintenance free. Add more storage capacity easily. WindStax are scalable – unique in the industry, multiple WindStax can be clustered and share central electronics. Considering solar? Our systems are set up as hybrids aggregating wind power and solar power in a centralized microgrid. We are pioneers of this concept. WindStax are non-directional and need little wind to start operating. That means the turbine works in ever-changing wind directions and in wind speeds as low as 5 miles per hour. The unique low-rpm, high-torque rotor design continues to work safely in high wind speeds that force traditional wind turbines to shut down. WindStax are friendly to the environment. Turbines have a small footprint, they are nearly silent at all wind speeds, and are avian friendly. There have been no documented cases of bird, bat, or even bug kills with vertical axis turbines. WindStax are friendly to your neighbors. Turbines are silent, safe, and, frankly, beautiful. Their design blends into their surroundings while providing good, clean, and free electricity. WindStax are government friendly. The units can be installed anywhere with a good wind approach. Most municipal zoning begins with regulations of towers and wind turbines above 60’. As a portable unit, they are not considered a permanent structure under most zoning regulations. WindStax are portable. With little effort the turbines can be moved across the property or across the country. WindStax turbines fit within the confines of standard flatbeds and ISO shipping containers 20’ and 40′ in length, keeping shipping costs to a minimum. WindStax are sustainable. The rotors and frames are built using steel and aluminum in a proprietary manufacturing process. Both materials can be recycled infinitely, saving enormous amounts of energy. In fact, steel is the most recycled material in North America. We care about our workers too, using low VOCs in the manufacturing process. WindStax use low carbon footprint materials, fasteners, components, and fabrication methods on a mission to achieve LEED, SCAQMD, CARB specifications and VOC compliance. WindStax are reliable with over one million operating hours and counting. Traditional horizontal axis wind turbines are complex machines comprised of thousands of components that involve an extensive international supply chain. WindStax uses a small fraction of that many components with only three moving parts – and WindStax are made in the USA.
