SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Egypt plans to boost its domestic oil output with a new development program at the Al Baraka oil field in the Kom Ombo concession in Aswan Governorate. The initiative is led by the South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company (Ganope). It is designed to restore production from aging wells.
The project will focus on repairing and reactivating existing production wells. Additionally, it will focus on drilling new development and exploration wells to unlock additional reserves. As part of the first phase, two new wells will be drilled, officials noted.

Ganope Chairman Samir Raslan recently visited the Al Baraka site alongside officials from Kom Ombo Petroleum Company (KOPCO) after a new drilling and workover rig arrived at the field. During the visit, the team reviewed the equipment and assessed preparations to ensure the project progresses according to schedule. The redevelopment program is being carried out in partnership with Canada's Mediterra Energy.
Discovered in 2007 as Upper Egypt's first commercial oil field, Al Baraka initially produced around 150 barrels per day before reaching nearly 900 barrels per day in 2011. However, reservoir depletion and challenging geological conditions resulted in a production decline later.
According to authorities, the latest redevelopment campaign is expected to restore output and unlock the remaining petroleum potential of the Kom Ombo region.
