Saudi crude oil dominates Japan’s imports in April 2026, despite a notable decline

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Japan’s imports of Saudi crude oil in April 2026 totaled approximately 11.47 million barrels, accounting for 44.8 percent of the country’s total imports, a notable decline if compared with 34.07 million barrels if Saudi crude imported in March 2026.

According to an analysis by Arab News Japan of data published by the Agency of Natural Resources and Energy, that belongs to the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry’s, Arab nations—specifically Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Oman—remained the dominant suppliers of Japan’s oil imports. They collectively provided 87.6 percent of the total volume in April   underscoring their strategic significance to Japan’s energy security.

The United Arab Emirates supplied 10.39 million barrels, representing 40.5 percent of total imports. Oman followed with 1.8 percent, while Qatar contributed 0.5 percent.

These figures, reflecting a substantial decrease compared to March 2026, attributed to the de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. It is unusual that there have been no reported imports of crude oil from Kuwait in the Ministry’s monthly figures.

During the month of April, oil imports showed an increased supply from the United States, which comprised 7.7 percent of the total, while Ecuador, Brunei, Malaysia, and Australia accounted for 2.3 percent, 1.2 percent, 0.8 percent, and 0.4 percent, respectively.
