History of Espanola Regional Hydro

Espanola Regional Hydro Distribution Corporation was formed on November 1, 2000 upon completion of the amalgamation of the former Hydro Electric Commission of the Town of Espanola and the former Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers Public Utilities Commission. The latter was formed on July 1, 1998 following the amalgamation of the former Towns of Massey and Webbwood and the Township of Spanish River.

Espanola Hydro Electric Commission was formed in 1960. The first Commissioners were Jim Boucher (Chairman), Jess Goodman and Mayor Fern Giroux. The first employees were Gerald Delaney (Foreman), Don Sunstrum (Lineman) and Alger Clavette (Financial Secretary). In the years that followed - J. Darby, J. Yocom, L. Foucault, E. Fairhall, J. McCue, R. McKinnon, K. Buck, A. Poikkimaki, R. Hagan, R. Michon, D. Wilson, D. Gervais and M. Rancourt served as Commissioners.

Massey Public Utilities Commission was formed in 1955. The first Commissioners were Hubert Sturdy (Chairman), Frank Hobbs and Mayor Albert Houle. George King was the first Secretary. In the years that followed - S. Tucker, D. Ridley, C. Thornton, L. Kutschke, H. Vance, M. McNally, J. Landriault, E. Shcroeder, J. Richer, E. McNenly, M. Cazabon, H. Crabs, G. Mowry, B. Thornton, J. Robinson, N. McDowell, D. Pickering, P. Roy, J. Richer, B. Kutschke, J. Pike/Fuhrer and F. Houle served as Commissioners.
