SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The updated ‘Country Analysis Brief: Algeria’ report published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) states that natural gas production volumes in the country hit the highest level in record during 2021.

The country’s production of 9.9 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of dry natural gas in 2021, was significantly higher by almost 23.4% from the production of 8.0 Bcf/d recorded in 2011. Also, the country exported 53% of the natural gas produced by it in 2021. The overall volume of exports surged in 2021, as compared with 2011. However, the percentage of exports was smaller than in 2011. The domestic natural gas consumption has recorded tremendous growth over the past decade.
The largest export destination of LNG from Algeria in 2021 was Turkiye, which received approximately 38% of the exports out of Algeria, followed by France and Italy with 28% and 13% share. More than half of the exports (nearly 53%) were to the European Union (EU) countries. The Other EU countries accounted for 4% of total exports.
Currently, Algeria has emerged as a major crude oil and natural gas producer in Africa. The country’s proved natural gas reserves are estimated at around 159 trillion cubic feet as at the beginning of 2023.
