SEATTLE (Oil Monster): BP along with its partners in the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) natural gas field are reportedly exploring possibilities for a second phase expansion of the West Africa LNG Export Project. It must be noted that the construction works of the first phase of the project are currently in progress.
The partners, namely, Kosmos Energy Ltd., Senegal’s Petrosen and Mauritania’s Societe Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures have reached an agreement to evaluate a potential LNG expansion by making use of a gravity-based structure in the GTA. The proposed expansion project will boost the LNG production from GTA field to at least 5.3 million metric ton/year (mmty).

According to BP, the new project could potentially expand existing infrastructure and production, by including new wells and subsea equipment. Furthermore, it will implement innovative designs to use equipment such as electric drive turbines, in order to lower emissions associated with LNG production.
Gordon Birrell, executive vice president of operations and production at BP noted that it aims to collaborate with its partners, governments in Mauritania and Senegal towards developing a long-term, successful energy hub in West African region. GTA highlights its strategy to develop resilient hydrocarbons to ensure energy security.
