Cedar LNG Export Project Received Key Permit from B.C. Authorities

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The government of British Columbia (B.C.) has granted environmental assessment certificate to Cedar LNG, a joint liquefied natural gas export project by Haisla Nation and Pembina Pipeline Corp.

The approval is further to a settlement between the B.C. government and Blueberry First Nation. The settlement called for continuation of drilling operations with the condition that Blueberry will play a key role in granting field operations permits.

The review conducted by Environmental Assessment Office proved that greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by the export project would be only 50% of the cap set by the provincial legislation.

Meantime, the project partners committed to carry out additional efforts to drive down the GHG emissions much below the currently forecast levels. The provincial administration plans to enter into an agreement with Haisla Nation to boost environmental performance and lower emissions to near zero by 2030. The project will employ all possible steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, said George Heyman, B.C. Environment Minister.

A final decision on commencement of construction of the floating LNG terminal and support services is expected by the end of the current year, said Pembina. Additionally, Haisla has signed a long-term liquefaction services agreement with Arc Resources Ltd.
