SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Chevron's Nargis-2 appraisal well in Egypt's Mediterranean waters has confirmed the extension of gas-bearing reservoirs identified at Nargis-1 and encountered an additional gas-bearing interval, supporting further evaluation of the discovery's development potential.
Egyptian Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi and Chevron Vice President of Exploration Kevin McLachlan reviewed the Nargis-2 results during a meeting at ADIPEC 2026 in Abu Dhabi.
The well confirmed the continuation of gas-bearing reservoirs previously identified at Nargis-1 and encountered an additional gas-bearing interval.
Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum said Nargis-2 reached a total depth exceeding 5,000 meters and evaluation results showed up to 35 meters of net gas pay.
The findings support continued appraisal work aimed at determining the discovery's resource potential and evaluating development options.
Chevron is currently involved in six offshore exploration areas in Egypt: Nargis, North Dabaa, Lotus, Northwest Atoll, North Simian and North Cleopatra.
The company is also planning further exploration activity in Egypt as it expands its position across the Eastern Mediterranean.
Nargis-2 strengthens the technical case for continued appraisal of the Nargis discovery while Chevron simultaneously advances additional exploration acreage and the proposed connection of Cyprus's Aphrodite field to Egyptian infrastructure. Together, these projects reinforce Egypt's strategy of combining domestic gas development with regional processing and export infrastructure.
Badawi and Chevron also discussed progress on Cyprus's Aphrodite gas field and the remaining agreements needed to connect production to Egypt's existing infrastructure.
Egypt's Petroleum Ministry said the project is progressing toward a final investment decision and eventual implementation.
The proposed connection would allow Aphrodite gas to use Egypt's existing gas receiving, processing and liquefaction infrastructure.

Badawi said Egypt is working to accelerate appraisal of discoveries, increase domestic natural gas production and encourage international companies to expand exploration and development activity.
McLachlan highlighted Egypt's strategic importance within Chevron's Eastern Mediterranean portfolio, citing its exploration opportunities and established natural gas infrastructure.
