Drones Strike Greek-Owned Tankers in Black Sea Near Russian Coast

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Unidentified drones targeted two Greek-owned oil tankers in the Black Sea on Tuesday, officials reported, raising concerns over maritime security in the region. The vessels, Maltese-flagged Matilda and Liberian-flagged Delta Harmony, sustained no major damage, according to Greece’s maritime ministry. No crew members were injured.

The Matilda was en route to load Kazakh crude oil at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal near Novorossiysk, Russia, when the incident occurred, Kazakh state energy firm Kazmunaygas confirmed. The vessel remains seaworthy with no significant structural damage.

No party has claimed responsibility for the strikes. Ukraine, which has conducted a years-long campaign against Russia’s energy infrastructure, did not immediately comment. Kyiv argues its attacks weaken Russian energy revenues used to fund the ongoing war.

The CPC terminal has been targeted previously, including a naval drone strike last November that damaged mooring points. Kazakhstan relies on the terminal for around 80% of its oil exports, making the attacks a significant concern for its energy sector.

The incident underscores escalating tensions in the Black Sea, where maritime and energy security remain vulnerable amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
