Gazprom Boosts TurkStream Gas Exports to Europe in January

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Russian energy major Gazprom increased its natural gas deliveries to Europe via the TurkStream pipeline in January, highlighting the route’s growing importance after the shutdown of Ukrainian transit. According to Reuters calculations released Monday, average daily gas flows through the undersea pipeline climbed 10.3% year on year.

Data compiled from the European gas transmission network ENTSOG shows that Russian gas exports via TurkStream reached 55.8 million cubic metres (mcm) per day in January, up from 50.6 mcm per day during the same month last year. Volumes were broadly stable compared with December, when daily supplies averaged around 56 mcm.

Gazprom Supplies 38.8 bcm of Gas to China, Exceeding Planned Capacity

Overall deliveries through TurkStream totaled approximately 1.73 billion cubic metres (bcm) in January, compared with 1.57 bcm a year earlier. Turkey has become the sole remaining transit corridor for Russian pipeline gas to Europe after Ukraine declined to renew a five-year transit agreement that expired in January 2025.

Gazprom has not published regular monthly export statistics since early 2023 and did not comment on the latest figures. Despite the January increase, Russian gas exports to Europe remain sharply lower overall. In 2025, Gazprom’s supplies to the region fell 44% year on year to about 18 bcm, the weakest level recorded since the mid-1970s, following the loss of the Ukrainian route.
