Kazakhstan Crude Oil Output Rises 12% to 99.6 Million Tons in 2025 on Tengiz Expansion

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Kazakhstan produced 99.6 million tons of crude oil and gas condensate in 2025, marking a 12% year-on-year increase, according to data released February 17 by the Kazakhstan Association of Oil and Gas and Energy Sector Organizations. The growth was primarily driven by expansion at the Tengiz oil field in western Kazakhstan.

Large-scale projects contributed nearly 70% of total national output, with overall production rising by 11.8 million tons compared with 2024. The increase was largely attributed to the launch of the Future Growth Project at Tengiz, located in the Atyrau Region near the Caspian Sea. Discovered in 1979, Tengiz is operated by Tengizchevroil, led by Chevron in partnership with ExxonMobil, KazMunayGas and Lukoil. The expansion is expected to lift Tengiz’s annual output to about 39 million tons.

Outside major developments, production remained largely stable, though some mature fields posted declines due to natural depletion.

Kazakhstan’s refineries processed 18.4 million tons of crude in 2025, representing 61% of domestic supply. The country operates three major refineries in Atyrau, Pavlodar and Shymkent, with modernization plans targeting higher refining capacity through 2040.
