SEATTLE (Oil Monster):Glenfarne Group’s Texas LNG Brownsville project has awarded a major engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to Kiewit Corporation for the development of a liquefied natural gas export terminal at the Port of Brownsville in South Texas.
Under the lump-sum turnkey agreement, Kiewit Energy Group will oversee the full development of the facility, including detailed engineering, procurement of equipment, module fabrication, construction, and commissioning. The contractor will deliver a fully operational LNG export plant to Glenfarne upon completion.
The Texas LNG export facility is designed with a production capacity of four million tonnes per annum (mtpa). Project officials said preparatory engineering work had already been carried out for around fourteen months prior to the signing of the EPC agreement. The contract represents one of the final steps before the project reaches its final investment decision (FID).
The facility is expected to begin commercial operations in 2028 and aims to be among the lowest-emitting LNG export facilities worldwide, using electric motor drives to reduce emissions.
The project has already secured long-term supply agreements with RWE Supply & Trading and Macquarie Energy for LNG offtake.
