MONTREAL (Oil Monster): METLEN Energy & Metals has strengthened its long-term natural gas supply portfolio through a binding five-year LNG agreement with Shell Global LNG Limited.
Shell will supply six LNG cargoes per year beginning in 2027, equivalent to approximately 600 million cubic metres, or 0.6 billion cubic metres, of natural gas annually.
The cargoes will be sourced primarily from Shell's U.S. LNG portfolio and can be supplied to Greece or other European gas markets.
The deal converts a memorandum of understanding signed by METLEN and Shell in February 2026 into a binding long-term supply agreement.
The earlier framework covered potential LNG supply and trading cooperation between 2027 and 2031.
METLEN said the new contract will diversify its gas procurement, strengthen supply security and provide greater flexibility across European markets.
Supply Agreement
Annual cargoes: 6
Annual volume: ~0.6 bcm
Start: 2027
Duration: 5 years
Primary source: Shell's U.S. LNG portfolio
The contracted LNG is not limited to the Greek market.
METLEN can use the cargoes to serve other European destinations, including markets connected through the Vertical Gas Corridor linking Greece with Southeast and Central Europe and routes toward Ukraine.
The flexibility strengthens Greece's role as an entry point for imported LNG moving deeper into European gas networks.

The value of the agreement is not only the volume secured, but where METLEN can send it.
Access to Shell's U.S. LNG portfolio combined with multiple European delivery options gives METLEN greater flexibility to direct gas toward markets where supply is tightest or demand is strongest.
For Shell, the agreement provides another multi-year outlet for its global LNG portfolio and shipping network.
Tom Summers, Shell's executive vice president for LNG marketing and trading, said LNG remains important for providing flexible and reliable energy to customers in Greece and other European countries.
The Shell agreement gives METLEN a predictable five-year LNG supply stream beginning in 2027 while preserving flexibility over where those cargoes are sold in Europe.
The contract also reinforces the growing role of U.S.-sourced LNG in Southeast and Central European gas supply.
